Paris Nevaeh Carr
2024 President’s Student Leadership Award Recipient
Cañada College is proud to name Paris Nevaeh Carr as this year’s President’s Student Leadership Award recipient. Paris was born in Hayward, Calif. and raised in Redwood City. After graduating from Sequoia High School, she enrolled at Cañada College in the fall of 2022 and will be earning three Associate for Transfer Degrees in Sociology, Psychology, and Interdisciplinary Studies: Social & Behavioral Sciences. She will be transferring to either UCLA, UC Berkeley, or UC Santa Barbara to pursue a degree in Sociology/Social Welfare in fall 2024.
During her time at Cañada College, Paris has been involved in many organizations, programs, and learning communities including the Promise Scholars Program and the Umoja Community. Paris has served as President of the Black Student Union (BSU) since the fall of 2023. Through organizing and hosting events at Cañada College, Paris has helped to create safe spaces for Black student voices to be heard, represented, and celebrated within the college community. Paris led campus events throughout Black History Month, encouraging all students to learn and celebrate Black History. One impactful event that was established under her leadership included a Poetry Slam where students used their talents to tap into their cultural, intellectual, and artistic voices through creative expression.
Outside of campus, Paris worked with the Boys & Girls Club of the Peninsula. In this role, she assisted high school students in reaching their academic goals by supporting them through homework help. In the future, she hopes to be an agent of change either as a social worker, a lawyer, or a professor.
