At least one non-fiction book, plus a number of short readings at the introductory college level. Introductory reading techniques, comprehension and vocabulary. |

Writing Requirements |

4-6 text-based essays of 2-5 pages each (which may include an introduction to research methods). Basic sentence combining, simple thesis development, basic outlines, quotation formatting and documentation. |

Student Performance Expectations |

At least 14 - 18 hours of course work per week outside of class. This course is designed to give students basic writing skills so that they can create clear, simple essays which will enable them to perform successfully in ENGL 847 or ENGL 836 and Read 836. |
