Step 3: Find out how to pay for College!

Chafee Grant: The Chafee Education and Training Voucher (ETV) Grant Program was designed specifically for foster youth to help pay for college or career and technical training. If you are/were in foster care or another court ordered out of home placement between your 16th and 18th birthday, you may be eligible for up to $5,000 of additional grant assistance through the Chafee Grant. Chafee Grants do not have to be paid back. https://chafee.csac.ca.gov/

Step 4: Fill out the FAFSA or Dream Act Application for Financial Aid.

Connect with the Financial Aid Director ([email protected]). Applying for financial aid is an annual process where students are encouraged to apply by March 2nd. March 2nd is the priority deadline for the state of California processing with the FAFSA application and for Cal Grant consideration. Both the FAFSA application and the GPA Verification Form need to be submitted by this date.

Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is a state-funded program that provides an accessible and rewarding college experience to low income students facing various barriers to academic success. EOPS provides a network of supportive counselors and dedicated staff, in addition to financial, and other various retention assistance so that students stay focused on their educational path while at Cañada College.

Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) is a state funded program that helps single parents receiving county assistance from CalWORKs and TANF succeed in college. CARE provides assistance with academic counseling, transportation assistance, food assistance, grants and other types of support. 

CalWORKs helps students on public assistance get access to vital services such as work study, job placement, childcare, and more.

At the Personal Counseling Center (PCC), we believe that a successful college experience requires a sense of emotional well-being. To this end, we offer FREE mental health services. Our personal counselors are licensed therapists or trainees who are supervised by our licensed therapists.
The Promise Scholars Program provides incoming, full-time students financial and academic support for two-three years. The program includes textbook assistance, food or transportation vouchers, dedicated counseling and career support. The intention of the Promise Scholars Program is to accelerate your path toward achieving your educational goals.
TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a program funded by the United States Department of Education. Our goal is to provide an academic, social, and personal support system for first-generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities, to assist them with certificate and degree college requirements, the transfer process and to motivate them towards a successful completion of their college education.
SparkPoint at Cañada College is a one-stop financial coaching and education center where students and community members access a full range of free services that lead towards financial stability. In addition, SparkPoint supports individuals who are experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, and/or food insecurity.

The Disability Resource Center (DRC) assists students with disabilities so they have equal access to all educational programs and activities on campus. Among the array of services offered are priority registration, specialized counseling, class scheduling, mobility assistance, test proctoring, specialized tutoring, transcription services, interpreter services for hearing impaired or deaf students, and more.

Get your Student Body Card, access student activities, and discounts with local vendors. Student Life provides opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills by participating in Student Government and clubs. In addition, they provide information about various resources such as housing, child care, transportation and SafeZone.
