Student Profile
Sofia Fernandez Giorgi
Sofia is a Middle College student at Cañada College, starting her college education while earning her high school diploma. She participates in the honors program for classes she wants to explore more. When she isn’t studying, she is working as a vet tech part-time. She is also a senator of the Associated Students of Cañada College, sitting on the curriculum committee.
Her current goals:
Sofia is working towards two Associate’s Degrees for Transfer before graduating high school: one in Business Administration and another in Economics. She strives to push herself, filling her time with classes, work, and extra-curricular activities. Sofia hasn’t picked a college to transfer to yet but is looking at the North Eastern region of the United States. She expects to graduate in the Spring of 2021.
Why Business and Economics?
Sofia had an interest in both Business Administration and Economics before attending Cañada. She took the Introduction to Business class during her first semester, which solidified the idea that this was the major for her. The transfer credit she earns in the program will also give her an extra edge when transferring.
Why Cañada?
Originally from one of the high schools in Redwood City, Sofia was introduced to the Middle College program at Cañada. This program allows her to take college courses concurrently with her high school classes.
Staying on top of a busy life:
With a full schedule, Sofia relies on her time management skills. She avoids procrastination, not leaving assignments to the last minute. She plans adequate time to complete tasks before due dates.
Advice for fellow students:
Sofia emphasizes that paying attention in lectures and keeping up with homework assignments will help students understand what concepts confuse them and lead to asking questions. Understanding concepts will carry them through their coursework.
